The mountain pastures' return

The "Retour des Alpages" returns to Annecy this Saturday, 12th October 2024, from 9am to 6pm. Artisan demonstrations, tastings, and parades will be highlights of the day! On this occasion, Le Pélican is offering the "Alpages Platter", available at Ô Bon Bec...

THE HISTORY OF "RETOUR DES ALPAGES"...

Since the Middle Ages, a tradition has persisted: the return of the herds from the mountain pastures. Every early autumn, the animals descend from the alpine meadows, marking the end of summer. The local community celebrates this day with great joy. Farmers decorate their livestock with bells, flowers, and ribbons, while traditional Savoyard costumes are worn. It is a folkloric celebration that honours ancient trades and offers artisanal entertainment and local product tastings between the parades.

This event is a true return to the roots, organised since 1973 by the town of Annecy and the Annecy Traditions Association. Every year, volunteers prepare this grand celebration with the same passion and enthusiasm, and it shows! More and more visitors and locals gather on the second Saturday of October to witness it, and the PVG Group will, of course, be part of it.

Saturday, 12th October 2024 from 9am to 6pm in the Old Town

Animal parade from 2:30pm onwards

LA PLANCHE DES ALPAGES AT THE HOTEL LE PÉLICAN

To celebrate craftsmanship and Savoyard traditions with an authentic moment of sharing, Hotel Le Pélican is offering "La Planche des Alpages": a selection of cheeses and cold meat at the special price of £20. The platter includes farmhouse Reblochon, Beaufort, Tomme de Savoie, Porcayou, and Savoyard dry-cured ham. It can be paired with a glass of Mondeuse Arbin "Terre d'origine" or Apremont "La Déchirée"! To prolong the festivities, this offer is available from Thursday, 10th to Sunday, 13th October at the restaurant Ô Bon Bec.

A mixed aperitif of carefully selected products in line with Le Pélican’s locavore values. At the restaurant Ô Bon Bec, the cheeses are handpicked by affineur Duboloz, the cold meats from Maison Baud are lovingly sliced on-site, and the bread is as local as can be, baked just downstairs at the bakery Ô Bon Pain! In short, great products that are just waiting for you :)
